“FSGMN Advocates for Inclusive Elections: Key Provision Added to Election Code of Conduct”

Federation of Sexual and Gender Minorities Nepal (FSGMN), in collaboration with its member organization Blue Diamond Society, recently held a meeting with Election Commissioner Hon. Janaki Tuladhar. The discussion focused on ensuring inclusive participation of sexual and gender minority communities in the upcoming elections, safeguarding their voting rights, and addressing key concerns related to the election code of conduct.
During the meeting, we submitted a memorandum highlighting these issues. We are pleased to share that the Election Code of Conduct, effective from the first week of Magh, now includes a significant provision. Under Chapter 2 (Conduct to be Observed by All), Article 4, Clause (cha) states:
“No election publicity or campaigning shall be carried out in a manner that harms the sentiments or engages in character assassination of senior citizens, women, sexual and gender minority communities, and persons with disabilities.”
We welcome this progressive inclusion and extend our sincere gratitude to the Election Commission for recognizing and addressing these concerns.
